Group Permissions vs User Permissions

Can you please explain permissions on filevista as they don't seem to follow the norm

e.g. user permissions would usually override group permissions but this doesn't seem to be the case on filevista

Also the button to inherit from parent - if this is unticked and i set individual permissions for a subfolder, the parent permissions are still inherited eventhough i have unticked it

Deny permissions take precedence whether it's user or group permissions. When you override permissions for a subfolder, the parent permissions should not be inherited. However you will still be able to see the subfolder in the list or folder tree. If you disallow Traverse and List permissions for a subfolder, the user will not be able to traverse folders below that level or list files. User will only see the name of the subfolder and receive an error for further actions.
