will not delete

Whein i click delete on a file or folder it says do you want to delete whatever the file name is and then i click on and i get an error up in that text box in the corner that says "Unable to delete the folder "New Folder", an error occured..."
If any one can help please do

Do you definitely have write permissions?  I had to get a dedicated folder set up by my host called uploads and then limited my users to folders under that.  A normal online area where your main web files are, probably won't have that permission - hence the need (apart from security) also for dedicated database folders etc..
