Allow another Admin

Have FileVista in production here. What I want to know is it possible for another user to have full administration capability similar to that of 'admin' user. I want to give certain other users admin privileges.

Any particular security have to be set on folders as previously asked?

I would be very interested in a "multiple admin" feature, whereby I can allocate admins to look after certains root folders, users etc.

Im not sure what the group manager tick box does, does this have any functionality?

Cheers,

Damon

P.S. please add me onto the list of people to notify when v3.0 arrives.

I agree.  It would be useful to designate a few additional admin accounts.

Please add me to the notification list for 3.0 as well!  Thanks.

Raji,
As of version 2.8, there is only single administrator support but multiple administrators feature will be included as it is a frequently requested feature.

Damon,
Group Manager is reserved for future uses. It is intended for assigning certain users as the managers of a group. These managers will be able to manage only the users that are member of that group.

Dan,
I will let you all know when this feature is ready.

Has this been added yet. I would love to be able to make another group manager that is able to create accounts and also setup permissions on the Root folder he controls.

This feature will be included in v3.0 which is to be released this month.

Awesome Cem!

This has been a very sought after feature for me.

As said before, please let me know as soon as v3.0 is released :)

The posts here indicate multiple admins was released in v3.0, but only "group-managers" is actually in the release notes.  Is this feature available yet?

(I currently have v 3.2 trial installed and it doesn't seem to support it.)

No, multiple admins feature was not added as of v3.2.4.

However in the next release, we will improve group managers feature so that group managers can add root folders under their main root folder.

Let me know if this is enough for your requirements.

It would be a great benefit to be able to assign more than one user to be site admin.

We have just released v3.5 which includes the multiple administrators feature. There is now a new system group "Administrators". Making a user member of this group will make him an administrator.

However, in some cases you won't want another full powered administrator as this may cause security issues. This is because an administrator has the ability to create a root folder that can point to any location on your server unless limited by Windows permissions. There would be cases when you need a sub-administrator which should administer only a group of users on a specific pre-created root folder. You would not want this sub-administrator to change application settings and create new root folders. This sub-administrator model was introduced as "Group Managers" in previous versions.

In v3.5, we introduce an advanced security system which allows assigning access control (permissions, quota and allowed file types) for each subfolder of a root folder separately. Unlike previous versions, subfolders are not forced to inherit and now can override the access control of their parent root folder. This means, Group Managers can now assign different permissions to their users on subfolders, so they don't need to create new root folders. They can already create a structure for their group users under one single root folder. This makes Groups Managers safe administrators.
