Chinese filename

The product and UI seem promising.

But when I tried the demo. I found that I can create sub-folders with Chinese name, but cannot upload a file with a Chinese filename.

(I am using Firefox 2.0)

The ability to handle double-byte characters filename and folder name is critical.

Hope it will be fixed in the new version.

The demo is installed on a server with English locale, thus you may not be able to upload files with chinese file names.

Please download the trial and install it on your own server. On the server, open Regional and Language Options dialog in the control panel. On the advanced tab select "Chinese" in dropdown box as the default language for non-unicode programs. Then run FileVista and try to upload a file with chinese file name.

Let me know the results.

This may be a possible solution, but not a good one.

The file servers we have are Windows 2003 server in English (US) locale. The servers contain files and folders with English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese characters. And we are quite hesitate to system locale settings of the server.

Moreover, the strange thing is that I can create folders with Chinese characters in your Demo site, but not upload Chinese name files.

The problem of handling non-English filenames seem relate to the File Upload component.

In fact, we are using an outdated ASP.NET package called HTTPCom 6.0AD to provide similar function to users. It can handles non-English names perfectly.

I came cross the new FileVista and attracted by the new UI and the use of AJAX. So I am checking the possibility to replace the existing package. (And indeed I remember I have evaluate WebExplorer several years ago and it also can't handle non-English names properly.)

Lewis,
Thank you for the feedback.

Ok, forget about changing locale settings of the server. Just let me know if you can upload a file with a Chinese filename when you select "Chinese" as the default culture in FileVista's settings dialog.

We will investigate this issue and fix it.
